TURKISH SCHOLAR WHO DISCOVERED THE MICROBE FIRST: AKSEMSEDDIN

Aksemseddin, whose real name was Mehmet Şemseddin Bin Hamza had his primary education from his father and completed the madrasah education in Amasia and had started to give lectures. Sultan Murad ll (the father of the Conqueror)  assigned Aksemseddin to take care of and educate his son (Fatih Sultan )Mehmet.

Akşemseddin also had education in medical and pharmaceutical fields. He describes the germs - which Louis Pasteur discovered by experiments after 400 years from him- in his book Maddetü'l-Hayat as follow;

“ To think that the disease occur individually in human body is wrong. The disease passes from person to person by infection. This transmission occurs by not visible but live small seeds”

He is the first scholar in history that mentioned microorganism and considered as the father of microbiology. This discovery of him was years before the microscope. The Italian scientist Fracastor who mentioned the germ in West has lived approximately 100 years after Aksemseddin. Aksemseddin was also one of the cancer researcher and he has worked hard on the disease called “seratan” and treated Kazasker (a high official in the Ottoman judiciary) Suleyman Celebi. In addition, he also found many formula and information related to which herbal medicine treated which disease and how they prepared.
